Raspberry PI and nagios

Raspberry Pi as multimedia Nagios monitoring center

Introduction

Raspberry PI is an extremely cheap ($25) credit card size computer which runs Linux. Because of included ethernet port, audio output and HDMI - you can easily build multimedia monitoring center. This article is just an idea what you can do further. In my case I connected Raspberry Pi to our nagios framework and additionaly used browser to show external monitoring status (in my case Pingdom).

Software installation

Boot your pi, launch graphical environment:

$ startx

Install nagstamon. Nagstamon is a Nagios desktop client. It integrates nice in system tray, but the strongest feature is 'sound notification'

$ sudo apt-get install nagstamon

Launch nagstamon, configure it according to our monitoring preferences. Make sure that you have sound notifications turned on.
